Frameless Smartphone

Hands on with Sharp AQUOS Crystal, An Affordable and Frameless Smartphone

Sharp hasn’t been the biggest player in the smartphone market, but they are definitely impressing us with their new AQUOS Crystal smartphone for Sprint. For starters, this phone has just what we have been dreaming about – and that is a five-inch borderless HD display that goes right to the edge of the phone. The result is a mobile experience that is more immersive, and dear we say it – TV like. Unfortunately, the resolution is just 1280×720, which is solid, but could be even better.
But it’s not just the visuals that impresses with the AQUOS Crystal smartphone – but also the audio. On the audio front, the phone is equipped with Harman Kardon Clari-Fi and LiveStage audio technologies for a more lifelike listening experience. Meanwhile, Clari-fi promises to improve digital sound quality by restoring compressed digital music, which is what most of us are indeed listening to on our phones.
And you know how phone speakers never seem to play loud enough? A Direct Wave receiver inside the phone Direct Wave Receiver uses the entire panel surface of the phone to create sound.
Other specs for the phone are pretty impressive too – the phone packs in an 8MP camera that sports a special Night Catch mode for brightening up the subject and background – even in the dark.

The phone also comes bundled with OfficeSuite so that you can edit Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint docs on the go.
The phone itself measures 5.16 x 2.6 x 0.40 inches and weighs just 4.97 ounces, so it’s not too hefty at all. The battery itself is a 2,040mAh Lithium-Ion battery. You get all of this powered by a 1.2GHz Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal expandable storage.
The Sharp QUOS phone will be available soon from Sprint, Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile. Pricing for the phone is also surprisingly very affordably, especially since it’s also targeting the prepaid market. For prepaid users, the phone will cost just $150. Those looking to sign up for a contract with Sprint will get it for just $20 – or they can pay it out over 24 months for $10 a month.

What is MTK platform?

What is MTK platform?

MTK platform refers to the mobile chipset or platform developed by MediaTek Inc. of Taiwan. Originally famous for being a fabless semiconductor-based company, MediaTek has increasingly become popular in the wireless phone industry with its so-called MTK platform. This mobile platform basically works more like a true personal computer because it is able to integrate the mobile device’s main CPU or central processing unit with its graphics or videocard and the corresponding wireless chip. All these components are rolled into one MTK mobile platform to produce feature enhancements in the multimedia environment, wireless connectivity, and overall phone performance and battery life. MTK chipsets are also considered to be great for mobile phone manufacturers because of possible lower upgrading costs and industry-leading boost in performance.
Phones that are equipped with dual-core processing power have become quite the norm in the smartphone arena. Under the MTK chipset or mobile platform, the company boasts of even better performance with the integration of the phone’s processing power with the graphics component and the wireless communication chip. Browsing is said to be made very easy and fast with application loading boosted substantially in terms of graphics display and image processing.

The MTK mobile platform is said to work best for people who prefer multi-tasking in their phones. Those that need to open several applications all at once can barely notice that their mobile phones are working so hard because of the advanced technology involved in the mobile platform or chipset. Some people even compare the latest in MTK platform-equipped smartphones as better than the newest offerings on the current Android and iOS environments. By late 2013, Mediatek is able to release its latest version of the MTK mobile platform with the industry’s first ever 8-core chipset. 8 processing powerhouses that are capable of 2GHz computing speeds is one great future for the growing MTK mobile platform
