Lava International CEO and MD Hari Om Rai said,
A series of Windows-based phones will be launched under the Lava brand by July. These will be priced in the range of Rs 6,500-8,500.
He also said the phones will be based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor and will feature Windows 8.1 platform. “We expect the Windows-based phones to represent 8-10% volume of Lava smartphones starting July-August time- frame,” Rai added.
The firm has contracted with various semiconductor companies worldwide for their handsets and targets mainly the Indian market. The firm has over 85,000 retailers and 870 service centres across India. lava Mobiles is aiming at registering a turnover of Rs 4,000 crore during the 2013-14 financial year. Karbonn has a presence in other countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Middle East as well
For Xolo brand of phones, the expected timeline of launch is the coming quarter too.
A Xolo spokesperson said.
We at Xolo believe that Windows OS has certain goodness to offer for a certain market segment and it will help Xolo reach a desired 15% share of the smartphone market by end of 2014.
With these companies bringing Windows Phone to the market, Windows Phone future is looking brighter. But another aspect is bit itchy. Will the Quality of Windows Phone follow that of Android phones.! At this junction, Windows Phone needs to improve market share and companies like these can help them to improve.
